Applications

C³'s Molecular Infusion Surface Treatment has outperformed conventional coatings by 10X for cutting tool inserts and by 40X for aluminum die-casting tooling and accessories. Customer feedback and field test reports clearly indicate that improved performance and life extensions offered by MIST are exceptional and have never been experienced by conventional coating techniques. Furthermore, customers have expressed that MIST-enhanced components in their production lines have not only improved tool life, but have also reduced downtime, increased production, and reduced their overall manufacturing costs.

In comparison with the contemporary industrial coating technologies such as the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and physical vapor deposition (PVD), where controlled atmosphere and expensive and sophisticated equipment are necessary, C³'s MIST technology can be efficiently applied “in-field” on a large scale in open air or an inert gas atmosphere and is independent of the component dimensions. Due to the nanoscale thickness and the infused nature of the thin film, occurrence of commonly observed coating failures such as spalling and cracking, which generally arise from the coefficient of thermal expansion mismatch of the coating and the substrate, are entirely eliminated. The MIST technology can be applied to a host of substrate materials including: steel and other metal alloys, ceramics, carbides, cermets, silicates, and various other inorganic materials.
