Technology

C³'s MIST technology is a low-temperature application process during which any one of 94 elements (including alkali and alkaline earth metals, transition metals, and rare earth metals) or their combination becomes infused several hundred angstroms deep into the substrate surface under atmospheric conditions.

The coating process consists of dipping the component into or spraying the substrate surface with a patented liquid followed by a thermal treatment at temperatures comparatively lower than traditional coating processes.

The thermal treatment produces a 50 to 500 nanometers (nm) modified surface or thin film that is “anchored” or “rooted” at the molecular level into the treated substrate material, thus providing enhanced functional surface properties that can lead to better performance of the components in specific environments.
